š Introduction: What is Backup?
Losing files can be painful ā especially when itās photos, work projects, or documents you canāt easily recreate. Using our Backup feature in Onlime is designed to quietly mirror the selected folders from your computer to the Onlime cloud.
You should know:
You choose which folders to backup (for example Documents, Pictures, Desktop).
The Onlime app automatically backs up your folders to the cloud in the background.
Your files stay where they are on your computer, but you also have a secure copy stored in Onlime.
When you change or delete files, Onlime mirrors the changes but keeps the last 5 versions and stores previous versions for 30 days in Trash.

Configure backup when you install Onlime
When installing the new Onlime app for Windows and Mac, we give you a quick way to add the most common valuable folders to backup like Documents, Pictures, Videos and Desktop. You can decide between the following:
Select the suggested folders and click confirm
Or
Cancel if you do not want to enable backup ā or do it later.
ā¹ļø You can always remove or add folders to backup after installation.
Configure backup after you've installed Onlime
After installing the new Onlime app for Windows and Mac, you can always add or remove folders from backup by opening the app.
Open the new Onlime app for Windows and Mac
Go to the Backup section via the left menu
Click the ā+ Add to backupā button and select the folder you want to protect.
š The app immediately queues your selected folders for upload and shows its progress in the Backup view.
ā Once all your important folders show a green checkmark and a recent āLast backupā time, your backup is complete.

š¦Confirm the status of your backup
In the Backup view in the Onlime app, you can see whether your folders are backed up:
A folder with a green checkmark is fully backed up.
Click the arrow icon to explore the folders.
āLast updatedā shows when the folder was last synced.
Outside the app, a small green dot appears on folders in Finder (Mac) and File Explorer (Windows) once they are included in your backup. The dot is a built-in part of the app and cannot be removed.
If you just added a large folder, you may not see the green checkmark right away.
Keep the app running and your computer online; the upload will complete on its own.
š Automatic protection going forward
After the initial upload, Backup takes care of new and changed files for you:
New files created inside a backed-up folder are uploaded automatically.
Edited files are re-synced so the latest version is stored in Onlime.
You donāt need to manually start backup jobs; just keep the app installed, signed in, and running.

āļø Control what stays on your computer
Some users prefer to keep certain folders only in the cloud, or reduce how much space Onlime uses locally. If you want more control over this, read about to fine-tune which files are stored locally versus only in Onlime.
ā Restore and work with your files
When you need to get files back from your backup or move them to another device, you can restore and download files from Onlime ā. It is useful when you want to download large or many files from Onlime to your computer.
If you later remove a folder from Backup in the Onlime app, the copies in Onlime are deleted ā your local files stay on your computer. To keep a copy in the cloud, move the folder to Archive first.
