🎯 In short: What is the Onlime Sync folder?
Onlime Sync synchronizes your files locally between your computer and Onlime in the cloud. Use Onlime Sync to both secure your files and access/edit files from Onlime on other devices. Onlime Sync also enables collaboration with other users in shared folders.
How does the Onlime Sync folder work?
When you install the Onlime app, you can activate the Onlime Sync folder – then your files are automatically synchronized and secured in the cloud and on your computer in Finder on Mac and File Explorer in Windows.
The Onlime Sync folder works like a normal folder on your computer.
All changes are synchronized with Onlime in the cloud (deletions, edits, etc.)
By default, content in the folder is also stored locally on your computer. With selective sync, you can choose which folders should be stored locally or only in the cloud.
Why use the Onlime Sync folder?
The Onlime Sync folder is for you if you have these needs or preferences:
Are used to Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive and want to continue securing and accessing your files in the same way
Want to access and update your files easily from other devices – e.g., between multiple computers or mobile devices
Want to collaborate in shared folders with other Onlime users who can also add, edit, and delete content

🔄 Advantages of using both Onlime Sync and Backup
If you want an automatic backup of local folders on your computer, and you do not need to collaborate with other Onlime users, you can use the Backup feature in the Onlime app. This way, you maintain the location of your folders on your computer.
Many users choose to use both Onlime Sync and Backup to always have a backup of important folders like Downloads, Documents, and Desktop – while also having the option to access specific files from other devices or collaborate
⚙️ Selective sync: keep only specific folders locally
Save storage space on your computer with selective sync. In the Onlime app, you can choose which folders in the Onlime Sync folder should be synchronized to your computer and thus take up space. Learn more in the guide How to use selective sync ↗.
